Winner of world’s most prestigious awards – Palme d’Or and the Oscar, filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, is revered by cinephiles across the globe for his for his cult-classics like Sex, Lies and Videotape, Out of Sight, Traffic, the Ocean’s Trilogy and Erin Brokovich. But the American director is in news for his film making experimentation, that brought to life a edgy thriller ‘Unsane’, which is completely shot on Iphone! Yes you read it right.

‘Unsane’ becomes the first full length Hollywood feature to be shot using the Iphone. Soderbergh who is known for his stylistic approach to each of his film, ends up breaking all the traditional film shooting stereotypes and coming out with a film which is lauded by many critics as ‘his best film ever’. ‘Unsane’ is the story of a young woman played by Claire Foy, who is being victimised by a stalker. The Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer written film has been secretly shot on an iPhone 7 Plus in 4K through the FiLMiC Pro app and is getting a favourable response from the industry too. Already out in theatres on March 23 the big banner mobile-shot film has seen a grandeur release in more than 2023 theatres, and the initial audience reaction is very encouraging.

As explained by Soderbergh in an interview , his decision to choose Iphone as the principal camera was not due to budget or any technical constraint. The decision was fueled by his artistic urge to have a shooting technology that allows him to be instinctive and spontaneous. And the result is extremely encouraging. It will not be an over statement to call his experiment a success. Though not intended to, there is a possibility that many filmmakers who are choked due to budget constraints, will lap up Iphone to realise their celluloid dreams.
