Special performances at Abhivyakti edition 2

The second edition of Abhivyakti City Arts Project started on April 26, 2019 and continues till May 12, 2019. Through multiple acts spread across four faculties of creativity viz. theatre, dance, music and visual arts Abhivyakti is showcasing original creations by young artists from Gujarat. On its second weekend, Abhivyakti has lined up two special performances one by noted dancer and choreographer Sanjukta Wagh and other by award-winning theatre personality Sunil Shanbag. These are scheduled on may 4th and 5th respectively. Here is a round up of the two performances.

Sanjukta Wagh

Dancer and choreographer Sanjukta Wagh is performing ‘Rage And Beyond – Iravati’s Gandhari’ on Saturday. Based on Iravati Karwe’s Mahabharata, the choreographed piece dwells upon Gandhari and her relationship with her family and other characters of the Indian epic. The performance is an attempt to explore the complexities of the character Gandhari. The visual representation is unique as she has used a single prop, that is a cloth which she ties around her eyes, during the entire performance. The piece is also spoken about for its music.

Venue: Dinesh Hall, 6.45 pm, May 4, Saturday

Sunil Shanbag

Sunil Shanbag will be presenting ‘Rakt Kalyan’ at Abhivyakti. Set in 1989, the play written by Girish Karnad draws parallel between 12th century Southern India and the current times. It meditates upon issues of tradition and authority and delves into the eventuality of anarchy and terror.

Venue: Dinesh Hall, 7.30 pm, May 5, Sunday
