Kankaria Carnival 2019
At any given day, Kankaria Lake is an apt destination for a light outing, be it a picnic or just Saturday night jaunt. Being the second largest lake in the city, you can find a plethora of exciting activities nestled on the periphery of the lake. From enchanting boat rides and an in-house zoo and aquarium, to mini trains that give you a childlike tour of the entire facility, there is too much to explore at this destination.
The experience of Kankaria Lake, however, really accentuates when Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation diligently organises the Kankaria Carnival on the last week of the year, starting on the day of Christmas till the end of the year. The first Carnival took place in 2008, the year when Kankaria was redeveloped. Since then, the festive vibe of the Carnival has just been getting better and better.
The current list of activities includes:
- Aeromodelling which includes plane and helicopter aerobatics with quadcopters, unmanned helicopters, powered aircrafts, hexacopters and Control Line Airplanes.
- Mega Magician Show
- Food Court holding stalls of popular brands
- Geet Gunjan featuring some of the most prolific folk singers like Geeta Rabari, Jigardan Gadhvi, Vishwanath Batunge, Payal Vaidya, Kirtidan Gadhvi, Osman Mir and Sairam Dave
- A Horror House
- Laughing Club gatherings and Yoga Classes
- Gujarat Police’s Arms Exhibition
- Senior Citizens Sports Festival
- Dog and Horse Show
- Regional Culture programmes, debates and painting competitions
- Roller coaster rides and fruit rides for children
- Fireworks Display
- Entertaining performances by students of various schools, colleges and private institutions.
And if that’s not enough, there will also be a magnificent 3D Laser Show on the theme “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” which will illuminate the entire Carnival. When they shimmer through the ripples of Kankaria Lake, it is a mesmerising sight to be a part of.
For the last 7 days of the year, Kankaria transforms into a haven of music, dance and arts that expresses the enthusiasm of the city. So, this New Year’s Eve, become a part of this propitious celebration from 7 till 10 p.m.
