Select Gujarati feature films, documentaries and short films will travel to US for screenings in New Jersey and Los Angeles as part of the 2nd Vadilal International Gujarati Film Festival. The gala also plans to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with a short film competition.
Vadilal International Gujarati Film Festival began last year with an objective to promote the Gujarati culture and cinema across the globe and to expose the local film fraternity to the international cinema trends. The fest announced its second edition and the film selection at an event organised in Ahmedabad on April 9, 2019. The first edition held in New Jersey in 2018 witnessed more than 4500 attendees altogether and the organisers are expecting the number of visitors to rise for the 2nd edition. The second edition takes a big leap and takes Gujarati content to Hollywood. Edition 2 will be hosted at two venues – Los Angeles from 7th to 9th June 2019 and New Jersey from 15th to 16th June 2019.
IGFF is an initiative of Kushal Acharya of Rostrum Media along with 1947 Production and Entertainment Inc. Like edition one, this year too reputed film maker Umesh Shukla of Oh My God! fame, is the Festival Director. The IGFF depends on a robust jury to make the final selections. This years jury comprises of filmmaker Gopi Desai, playwright & author Saumya Joshi and author Jay Vasavada. An added feature this year is of the Short Film section. Entries were solicited from film makers across the globe on the subject of ‘The Ideals of Mahatma Gandhi’. From the multiple submissions the jury has selected 5 films, each under 10 minute, to be screened as part of the festival.
