This presentation will explore Śrāvaka Saṃbodha, the final literary work of Ācārya Tulasī (1914–1997), a celebrated Śvetāmbara Terāpantha mendicant leader. Composed in the late twentieth century, the text outlines the qualities (guṇas) of lay disciples, and it offers didactic instructions on the ideal householder’s conduct, encapsulating what is regarded as the Jain way of life. It is argued that the author of Śrāvaka Saṃbodha reformulates traditional principles and practices to suit contemporary times. Thus, this could be referred to as a modern śrāvakācāra. By shedding light on the unique features of this modern treatise, the talk aims to enrich the scholarly discourse on lay practices and the growing influence of vernacular literature in preserving and propagating the Jain tradition.
