The rains have absconded, leaving us with the legacy of potholes on the road and dust in the air. Until the flying cars are commercialised, roads and vehicles are our only medium of transportation, but it is up to us to decide on where these bumpy roads should lead us to. To add a pinch of history and amalgamate in the traditions of Gujarat, AAW 120 is featuring Kalyanji Virji Shah; the celebrated Padma Shri honoured musician, who is often recalled as a part of the duo Kalyanji-Anandji along with his brother Anand Virji Shah. Born to a Kutchi entrepreneur, both the brothers are self-trained musicians who were in their early days, guided by a mentor, who knew nothing about the aesthetics of music. Kalyanji is still famous for his been music for Nagin Movie and was awarded the Film Fare Award for the Best Music Director for his musical compositions in Kora Kagaz film. Kalyanji left for the heavenly abode in 2000 and is survived by a son Viju Shah, who is also a music composer in the Indian Film Industry.
